DescriptionN1-(5-phospho-beta-D-ribosyl)glycinamide is an intermediate in 5-aminoimidazole ribonucleotide biosynthesis I pathway in E.coli. It is a substrate for the enzyme phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase 1 which catalyzes the reaction an N10-formyl-tetrahydrofolate + N1-(5-phospho-beta-D-ribosyl)glycinamide -> a tetrahydrofolate + N2-formyl-N1-(5-phospho-beta-D-ribosyl)glycinamide + H+. It is also a product for enzyme phosphoribosylamine-glycine ligase which catalyzes reaction ATP + 5-phospho-beta-D-ribosylamine + glycine -> ADP + N1-(5-phospho-beta-D-ribosyl)glycinamide + phosphate + H+ (BioCYc: 5-PHOSPHO-RIBOSYL-GLYCINEAMIDE).
